Market briefing · Miami

Miami: gateway, showroom, and trap.

Miami is the natural port of entry for Latin American brands and one of the hardest retail markets in America to read from abroad. The corridors are genuinely different businesses; the rents are top-tier national; and the diaspora demand that makes a Brazilian brand feel instantly at home has misled more than one strong operator.

Entry logic

Three questions before you tour a single space

Are you selling to Miami, or to Brazilians in Miami?

Diaspora demand is real and it is finite. A concept that validates on compatriot traffic can stall the moment it opens store two. Model demand from the American customer as well as the diaspora before committing.

Do your unit economics survive Miami rents?

Several corridors now carry rents at the top tier nationally. If the model only works at aspirational sales, Miami is a marketing expense: budget it as one, or choose a different corridor.

Is Miami even the right first market for you?

Sometimes the answer is Orlando, Tampa, Texas, or even New York, precisely because it forces the American-market test on day one. The entry analysis should rank markets, not rationalize the familiar one.
